Extending the life of your home fragrance

Extending the life of your home fragrance

In a world where sustainability is increasingly valued, many of us are turning to eco-friendly home fragrance solutions like soy candles and reed diffusers to create inviting atmospheres while minimising our environmental footprint.

At HH Scents, we're passionate about providing high-quality products that not only elevate your space but also contribute to a healthier planet.

In this blog post, we'll share some tips and tricks for extending the life of your home fragrance

1. Trim Your Candle Wicks: Proper wick maintenance is essential for ensuring a clean and efficient burn. Before lighting your soy candle, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch to prevent soot buildup and ensure a steady flame. This will help your candle last longer and burn more evenly, maximizing its fragrance throw and reducing waste.

2. Burn Candles Properly: To get the most out of your soy candles, it's important to establish good burning habits. Allow your candle to form a full melt pool (liquefied wax that reaches the edges of the container) during each use to prevent tunneling and ensure an even burn. Avoid extinguishing the candle until the entire surface has melted to avoid wasted wax and maximize fragrance diffusion.

3. Rotate Your Reed Diffuser Reeds: Over time, reed diffuser reeds can become saturated with fragrance oil, leading to diminished scent throw. To prolong the life of your reed diffuser and maintain optimal fragrance diffusion, periodically flip and rotate the reeds to refresh the scent. This simple step can help extend the lifespan of your reed diffuser and ensure continuous fragrance enjoyment.

4. Store Products Properly: Proper storage can significantly impact the longevity of your soy candles and reed diffusers. Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent melting and preserve fragrance integrity. Similarly, store reed diffusers in a stable, upright position to prevent leakage and maintain the potency of the fragrance oil.

5. Use Room Sprays Sparingly: While room sprays offer instant fragrance gratification, it's important to use them sparingly to avoid overpowering your space and depleting the product too quickly. A little goes a long way with room sprays – a couple of spritzes are usually all you need to refresh a room with your favorite scent.

6. Re-purpose Candle Jars: Once your soy candle has burned down to the last couple of centimetres, don't toss out the jar! Soy wax is easy to clean, making it perfect for re-purposing. Simply remove any remaining wax residue by placing the jar in the freezer until the wax hardens, then gently pop it out with a knife or spoon. Clean the jar with warm, soapy water, and voila – you have a stylish container for storing small items or planting succulents.

By following these simple tips, you can prolong the life of your soy candles and reed diffusers, minimise waste, and maximize fragrance enjoyment.
